Increasingly, the placid night was only disturbed by low level Shinigami patrolling the secure white walls of Seireitei. Of course, little could bypass the gate guardians, and if some enemy was that powerful, they would be detected long before they reached one of the gates. Captains and Lieutenants would immediately gather to annihilate the invader and that would be the end of that. The only possible way the Arrancar could penetrate the walls, at least in Hirato's mind, would be to bring a large invasion force. In response, a large force of Captains and Lieutenants would swiftly be assembled to defend Seireitei. Patrolling seemed a little pointless to the Third Seat, but it did prevent complacency, which was crucial. Complacency would spell the destruction of the Soul Society, as it almost had in the Winter War a year ago.
Listening to Sachiko expound on her people's perception of Shinigami did not surprise him in the slightest. He himself had been criticized as a tool of the nobles, no more than a warrior for their malevolent desires, but he completely disagreed with that label. He at least hoped that it wasn't accurate. The only people he had chosen to serve as a Shinigami were the Captains and Central 46. No noble families, save his own, possessed any control over the cerulean eyed man's life, or at least he believed so. Responding to her final statement regarding the attitude of Rukongai toward the nobles, he spoke to the female Shinigami.
"Ignorance is always infuriating to me," the crimson haired man said. It was certainly a correct statement for the Zanjutsu expert; even at a young age, the naivete of many supposed "dignified individuals" irritated him particularly due to his uncle's promotion of knowledge over ignorance and generalizations. Many of his other caretakers openly despised the brother of Hirato's father for his thoughts about people of the "lower class". Hirato greatly respected his uncle for that, and was ever grateful toward him. Glancing back at Sachiko, his philosophy that class didn't determine a person's worth was definitely embodied in her; despite the fact that she had been raised in the slums of Rukongai and was considered inferior by some pompous fools, she was fascinating to have a discussion with. He was glad that Sachiko comprehended that he was neither ignorant nor arrogant. After all, that would impede the development of their relationship, which would irritate Hirato. He desired to continue these excellent conversations some other time, and a misunderstanding might jeopardize that.
