Smothering a sharp retort, she rolled her eyes and flagged a waitress impatiently. The offer to sit in the centre of the magnificent ivory room was quickly declined and they were led to the outskirts instead. Choosing the seat across from him with her back facing the door to discourage escape, she narrowed her eyes and ordered a bottle of champagne from the expensive end of the drinks list. She placed her bag on the floor beside her, taking a moment to secretively massage her aching feet; the decision to wear heels had been haunting her for a while now and her caressing did little to relieve the crippling pain. Nodding politely to the waitress as she returned with their champagne in a bucket of ice, she took the menu from her hand and dismissed her with a frosty smile.
Such variety! She had never seen a restaurant in the Rukongai with such an exotic selection, but she had little difficulty choosing. Straying from the seafood options that she was familiar with, she decided on the Kobe steak, a delicacy from her own country that she had yet to try. She smothered her hands over her stomach as it growled quietly; it had been nearly twenty fours since her last meal and considering she had finally caught up with her target, she figured she deserved a treat. It was pricey, sure, the money in her purse that she’d borrowed from the Hachibantai’s funds would barely cover the champagne and the steak, but her companion had extended his invition, and he would act the gentleman she was sure.
Surreptitiously she glanced over her menu aiming to study his features, but recalling his fist around her throat, shuffled slightly nervously in her chair. He had already proved his complete disregard for the humans in this place and it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to jump over the table before she could react. I’ll be damned if I have to moderate myself in front of you… She thought, though he had suggested no such thing. It was time to launch another attack, perhaps make up for her lack of strength earlier.
“So, who are you working for now?”
She languidly placed the menu on the white table and laced her fingers together, smirking a little at her second attempt to provoke him.
