The place was simply a massive and dangerous distraction. Lured in by the twinkling lights like determined moths from the harsh desert and corrupted streets, the people in this city lose themselves for hours at a time, plugging money into machines or discarding it at tables in the faint hope that the odds will favour them just long enough to earn back their losses or win enough for their next fix of whatever sordid vice that grips them.
More like a butterfly than a moth, Nanao flitted around the casino seeking not the cheap illuminated thrills but a more substantial prize. The Luxor was renowned for its high stake games and Nanao’s endeavours had thus far been quite a gamble but the reward would be worth the risk.
She had entered the human world an hour or so ago, through a senkaimon that had opened into a filthy alley beside the last known location of her target. When the mission had been delivered to the Hachibantai she had immediately accepted, knowing how dangerous this fugitive was and what his capture would mean to the Gotei 13. It was a task probably more suited to her captain, but as she was filling in during his mysterious absence it fell to her, and though she enjoyed the order and routine of the office the chase was what she relished most. Grimmjow Jaegerjacques had been lucky to evade capture for so long, but his hot streak was about to burn out.
A sudden flash of ocean blue caught her attention but the place was thrumming with humanity due to the fact that a massive poker tournament was being hosted there currently and also that it was a Saturday night, and she was having trouble finding it again. She stood out herself in her cardinal crimson dress, without straps styled in an elegant heart shape across her bust, fitting flatteringly around her form, before sweeping just above her knees with a slight ruffle. The first outfit she had chosen for this gigai had the opposite effect and she was persuaded to change in fear that she would be mistaken for a card dealer. She suspected it would have been easier to around now as this disguise, though fitting for this role, was attracting unwanted attention and twice now a stray hand had brushed across her backside, the perpetrator vanishing into the crowd before she crowd break some fingers. There! Unconsciously her brain had honed in on the target and she saw him clearly, his angular, chiselled features, extravagant clothing and of course his fierce cobalt eyes that almost matched his sleekly styled hair, thrown perfectly yet effortlessly together as if designed that way. Her heart began to flutter excitedly as she began to weave through the crowd in an intricate but random manner trying to get closer without being seen herself. Though the heels gave her an extra three inches she was surrounded by the milling casino population most of whom were males and taller than she, her eyes only caught tantalizing glimpses if the sea of bodies moved in a particular way. Almost! But as she emerged from the mass she had once again lost sight of her prey. Barely resisting the urge to stamp her foot on the lush, dark carpet, she gave a silent growl of frustration and pushed forwards to resume her search.
