Kaoru wasn't quite as adept reading spiritual pressures as her teacher or her brother, but she could sense enough and understand enough of it to know that he was grateful for her returning smile. Kaoru's face flushed a small bit of red as she smiled in her happiness at having lifted his spirits if only slightly. Kaoru loved it when others were happy around her and would often just sit back and enjoy the peaceful aura of the happiness around her. She would be content with just staying silent as others around her laughed and smiled. However, in this situation, Kaoru couldn't enjoy this moment as she would have, since the topic at hand was rather dark and filled with shadows and danger. She had already filed away all the information thus far of their talk and soon she had the wheels in her head turning yet again. As a 5th division member, she was used to processing such information and storing it away for later use. Information collecting was her specialty, as was undercover missions and things that required her to be silent and keep to the shadows.
Upon hearing that Enigma had plans to take out the 13 division captains, Kaoru's mind immediately went to her brother, the Captain of the 13th division. She knew full well that he was in no immediate danger since he could take care of himself. What worried her was the thought of losing another person close to her. This time she wasn't without power, but she wondered if she had enough to save Kyouya should be get into a bind. She didn't want to lose him, after all he did for her and what he eventually became to her, so any danger that might be posed to him worried her. Kaoru's hand went to her bells again as she returned the glance towards her teacher. Her blue eyes both far away and yet they were still there at the same time. She listened as Hirato had answered her mutterings to herself, and this pulled Kaoru all the way back to her mind. "Yes, I realize that he is more than capable to defending himself, but if I know Kyouya, he will spend more of his energy protecting others instead of worrying about his own life," Kaoru said as she averted her blue eyes to the side as she spoke, her feelings conflicted over this. Kaoru couldn't help but let go of this last part. "It is more the fear of losing another so close to me, sensei. I was helpless the last time, but this time I have the power to protect what is mine," Kaoru's hands clenched into fists on her lap as her eyes narrowed and soon closed, hiding the fear and sorrow that flashed within her eyes. When Hirato had went on to say that he was Enigma's primary target, Kaoru's gaze had immediately snapped up and she regarded Hirato with worry. Protective thoughts ran themselves through her head, but she immediately put them out with a squeeze of her hands together. Death at every turn, can I hold on to no one?! Kaoru snarled in her head, her emotions turning angry for a moment as the thought of losing her teacher brought on some of her over-protectiveness out in her. Kaoru was a pro at keeping her face blank, though, so nothing showed on her face to show him of her sudden burst of emotion. However, with her mask off, it was extremely hard for her to do so.
When Kaoru had asked Hirato her question, he had gone into his thoughts as he looked her way. Her blue eyes searched his cerulean ones to try and find some answers, though the man seemed impossible to read on the outside. A trait that annoyed Kaoru since he seemed to read Kaoru like a book. Kaoru had grasped her own tea cup, but deciding that tea did not sit well with how she was feeling at the moment, and put it down again. Her hands still held on to the cup in front of her tightly. Suddenly, a brief surge of her power had escaped from her iron grasp, her new-found control (at least what little there was of it), and instantly Kaoru had managed to hold it down. In recent events, Kaoru had a sparring session with an 11th division member named Archie. Within that session, Kaoru had broken through the first seal of the three that was one her. While she had gone berserk for a few minutes soon after breaking it, she managed to regain some minimal control over herself, but only slightly. Her power was still unstable at this point, and the first seal could not be rebuilt without the aide of her brother. Kyouya would not know there was something wrong until the third door was damaged. Kaoru had responded to what he said with a brief and simple phrase. "I understand, sir," Kaoru waiting patiently for Hirato to finish explaining the man named Enigma and his shadow games. Kaoru's gaze had lowered to the table, fixed on her hands around her tea cup, and listened. Her outward appearance was calm and composed, blank and emotionless as her mask went slightly up to hide her inner most feelings. Inside, Kaoru was dealing with the chaos of keeping herself in check at all times, the fear for both for Takashi and Enigma, worry and unease, and the fear of losing those closest to her again.
