Physical Description:
Akinote resembles a male teenager in his mid teenage years with surprisingly pink hair and vibrant chocolatey brown eyes. He's of an average height for a male but seemingly still growing.
His form shows that he is in very good shape, athletic and fairly muscular. One could gather that he spends a significant amount of time indoors and exercising, as his muscles, when revealed, are more defined than your average scientist could boast. His skin is smooth and blemish free, pulled taut to his musculature with a generally pale complexion, adding to the apparent vibe that he doesn't operate in the sun for extended periods.
In the Soul Society, he wears the usual black shihakushou with the white underthings, however his under short has shorter sleeves than the normal cut, the sleeve resting halfway up his forearm. it would seem he had this modified for various works of dexterity such as surgery in the field or otherwise, lab work, operating computer stations, and complex kido motions for advanced and abnormal casting methods for atypical spells. he wears his zanpakuto strapped to his back held in place by a string of white jade beads very similar to prayer beads. It's pink handle juts out next to the right side of his head. When traveling in the field to investigate or collect samples and not subjects, he carries a white and black messenger bag opposite the direction of his zanpakuto.
His eyes don't exactly have a piercing quality to them. It is far more like a dissecting nature. His prolonged gaze is as if he were pulling you apart piece by piece and examining every aspect of your being straight down past the marrow. To most, it is even more disconcerting than a simple piercing gaze especially since he normally wears a bored face unless something interesting attracts his attention and perks up his mood.
Personal Information
Personality Overview:
The personality you'll get from Akinote is basically dependent upon when or more aptly, where you run into him.
Normally he's a pretty ambitious sort of guy but with no place to put his inspirations so he always seems bored, his eyes looking half closed as they pick apart the world around him and his attitude seems lazy or laid back because he's not apt to do much without orders or something intriguing to attract his attention. he's slightly sarcastic a bit of a smart ass but it's usually in a playful kind of way.
He's been called arrogant before, but given his track record and his knack for backing up his claims and the incessant need to not over exaggerate usually dispel the rumor. He's often reverent to his superiors, the captains but considers himself on par with the lieutenants despite his lack of a badge, and treats them as peers and expects to be treated as such in return, and as none of them hold any power to order him around, he often doesn't heed their orders unless he thinks it actually necessary.
He can be friendly but he's rarely struck by the notion given his general apathy for other individuals, though he is more apt to be friendly to attractive males as he's relatively openly homosexual though since few actually know who he is given his time in the kido corps and as much time as he spends in the labs, a lot of people find him a mystery. He isn't so bold as to blatantly hit on a guy however, though subtle flirting does happen sometimes even if the flirtee remains oblivious. It's something about the challenge of enticing a man that just gets to him. he also has a bit of a thing for cute nerds, especially the ones who wear glasses.
This changes however when he enters the 12th division's main buildings for research and development. He finds the place to be filled with endless wonder and information that he is still busy consuming, which means he's always intrigued and he has devoted his afterlife to the Court of Pure Souls and he takes his vows and oaths seriously. In the lab he's in charge and expected to know what's going on and compose himself with extreme capability and he does so with real dedication. Everything is serious in the workplace and he treats it as such and fully expects everyone else to as well, swiftly moving to remove any disruption or hazard from the environment usually through force. In the 12th, they deal with innumerable hazards and dangerous objects and secret information and mishaps are not taken lightly. His reprimands are known well enough amongst the other members of the division even if they are more lenient than Mayuri's. Well somewhat.
He develops a single-minded nature when he gets down to business and devotes his time and thoughts whole-heartedly to the task at hand. He is cautious and careful but expert and thorough as well, going over his work and reviewing his findings at least once before submitting the information and most work goes through him and is filtered from their to Mayuri based on both importance and completeness of the project. He is authorized to develop his own projects and form teams to get more done as efficiently as possible and he delegates rather well and his praise is far more forthcoming than his captain's, but carries almost as much meaning.
As for his relationship with Mayuri himself, it could never be called a friendship nor even a mentor or protege sort of thing. It's more like he is a competent and trustworthy subordinate who keeps the other annoying pleebs out of his hair and on track. Sort of like a dog who can be trusted to clean up after itself and herd the sheep. Akino understands this even if he doesn't appreciate it and he doesn't long for or expect anything more from the Mad Scientist of Seireitei. In fact as it goes, Akino loathes the position Mayuri holds somewhat as the man is apathetic and immoral in the best sort of way. He detests the fact that Mayuri is the 'perfect' scientist and that he isn't. He can't stand the way he treats others but he knows well enough to bite his tongue and endure.
This of course reveals his secondary or more aptly, primary purpose in the Division, as a field operative gathering data from the frontline both in and out of combat. He leads a small team of trustworthy enough individuals who are able to participate in combat well enough and collect samples safely and relay notes and information as requested. Mostly though, they're good at following orders and transporting things. He believes their safety is paramount usually and goes to great lengths to make sure his allies remain unharmed in the field. He leads with level headed orders and well thought out plans with more contingencies than are ever necessary. To him field work is even more dangerous to working in the field and as long as the potential for combat is possible, you'd be hard pressed get him to crack a smile or allow any leniency. See he's come to realize that most shinigami, after a time, forget the fact that they are in a military organization, but he never makes that mistake. He is forever trying to improve his combat capabilities and he remains disciplined and has a tendency to remind others of their duties.
And his serious nature carries over further, into combat. It's almost like a new persona when he is in a fight, there is little reluctance to make a move from him though he is the sort of character to lead an opponent into using more of their skills in order to witness them and understand their nature and capabilities. He is most interested in the capabilities of any and all spiritually aware beings even if he has a healthy understanding of them already, which sets him apart from Mayuri. In his mind,it gives him an upper hand to be aware of what he is up against to begin with but that doesn't mean there is nothing else to learn nor something new to see, some alteration or variant. It is of the utmost arrogance to presume that you know everything about someone. Knowing their abilities is not enough, their mindset and the degree of their conviction are also things to witness and test himself against. His resolve is to keep pushing further beyond where he already is and to not fail those who are relying on his victory and to exceed every expectation.
He is perhaps an immoral, dishonorable sort of fighter really because the sentiments of bushido or anything along the lines of honor and polite combat are foolish relics of a forgotten age to him. When you enter combat you place your life on a knife's edge and one should never play with a knife. there are no rules other than to pick your opponent apart and achieve the objective. The only time this doesn't apply, is when he is under orders not to kill his opponent or to collect a subject. He insists on observation and deduction being the most important skills to have during combat because it allows one to adapt to their opponent and prevail and the faster you can deduce the nature of their abilities, the better, and as such it has become one of, if not his most noteworthy skills, even going so far as to surpass his kido prowess in importance. Cold and calculating could be used to describe him but it wouldn't be doing him any justice. He rarely allows emotions to permeate his mind during combat. In his mind, feelings have little place on a battlefield. They blind the combatants and as a fuel source for the will to battle, they are finite and easily run out making them unreliable and only for the foolhardy and thus his feelings fester in the back of his soul pinned behind walls that shield him from outside influence.
in the real world ("mostly off duty...")
things he likes ( the real world and its culture, kido and magic and spiritual manipulations, science, books, cute nerds, test subjects, torture)
things he dislikes (having his hair made fun of, overly flamboyant ppl, arrogance that cant be backed up, 'ruffians', being reprimanded,)
Character Time-line:
born into minor noble family brother to ushoda hachigen
grows up relatively normal as a sort of bookworm with a proclivity for arts and sciences
after witnessing a shinigami battle, wishes to enroll in Shino academy much as hachi did. Parents are vehemently against this for some time so he secretly takes the entrance exam
after passing the exam easily, he is enrolled in the advanced class passing out of the academy in 5 years as opposed to the usual 7.
Due to prowess with kido and aptitude involving spiritual skills, he is placed in the Kido Corps under his brother, much to his chaggrin.
Advances skills in kido as well as zanjutsu over the next 50 years within the kido corps. Advances to 3rd seat level. has yet to discover the name of his zanpakuto as he never is allowed to use it.
Because of his time in the kido corps, his face is relatively unknown as are his skills which are not put to much use in the 4th division. Shortly after transfer, he makes initial contact with Hitomi.
Engages in Jinzen incessantly during the next period, developing a rapport with his zanpakuto and trains profusely in the new style of swordsmanship necessary to master the sword as well as developing the abilities it possesses.
Promoted to 4th seat in the 4th and placed in charge of the #1 advance relief squad, allowing him experience in the field. During an information gathering mission, the team, having been placed on the tail of spec ops unit falls into peril and his squad is dispatched to provide support. Unfortunately things go poorly and he is forced into combat despite protocol, and holds more than his own in the fight, capturing and defeating the enemy almost single handedly before healing the members of his squad and the team they were dispatched to look after.
Performs several other impressive feats while apart of the 4th, performing well on missions and leading his small unit of elite healers in combat. participating in difficult surgeries of various sorts and finding the cause of and curing an outbreak of a strange spiritual plague affecting first the Rukongai and then the outskirts of the Seireitei steadily spreading further inwards somehow.
Because of this track record he attracts the attention of Kurotsuchi Mayuri who takes a liking to the boy due to steady hands and skills in surgery as well as kido. Mayuri places a request of transfer of Akinote to 12th division. Unohana declines the request 14 times over the next 5 years.
Exceedingly frustrated with "That woman's meddlings" Mayuri goes against proper channels and offers Akinote a position inside of the 12th division's ranks directly. Offers 3rd seat and much increased pay as well as field work and placement as his 'right hand'. Akinote accepts and requests the transfer.
In his new position, he is informed that he is to act as a field operative for Mayuri to 'acquire specific and interesting subjects' without killing them, something Akinote's skills should be well acquainted for. He proceeds to exceed expectation in this new position for some time.
Continues advancing combative skills and engaging in experiments alongside Mayuri, acting as a secondary and more proficient assistant than Nemu in most ways. Proves himself to be proficient in the lab and in the field.
Seemingly masters his shikai's abilities and necessary fighting style as well as gaining more proficiency with kido, to the point that he is able to develop his own original spells, reminding people that squad 12 runs research and development for more than just technology.
