Makoto sat at his computer, typing an email to his sister. Their last interaction had consisted of him berating her for allowing the Quincy to eliminate the Arrancar, although when he thought about it, if he had cooperated with his only sibling, things would have been much different. His wife convinced him after a length conversation on the matter that he should at least attempt to explain his feelings to Fumiko and understand her own to start walking along the long road to reconciliation. They had been rivals while growing up, but with the death of their parents, everything changed for the worst. Instead of remaining in Japan to assist him with their parents' affairs, Fumiko had quickly departed for America to finish her education. Makoto had wanted her to assist him and felt betrayed and abandoned when she did the exact opposite. The night of their deaths, he had turned his phone off to avoid being distracted from his work. He didn't know that their parents were deceased or that Fumiko had tried to call him many times until he turned on his phone the next morning.
His brown eyes examined the email for the third time, which read, "Hello, sister. There are things we urgently need to talk about, so please come to my house as quickly as you can. My wife and kids just left for errands and they won't be back for at least an hour and a half. I heard about a former Espada almost taking your life and another powerful Hollow doing the same while you protected a human, and that made me realize that this is even more urgent than I previously thought. Sincerely, your brother". He sent the email, since it looked satisfactory to him and sat back in his chair, sighing. The two of them had spent the majority of their lives together and neither truly understood how the other felt. Of course, Makoto's lack of answering his phone that night had definitely hurt his sister, and that, along with his behavior toward her, made the situation even worse.
He was pretty sure she would come, even though she would probably be in a foul mood. For years, the two had lived separate lives, distancing themselves from each other as much as they could, and it was both of their faults for that. Incidentally, his wife had never even seen her husband's sister and the children had never seen their aunt. Despite his feelings toward her about her choices, she was still family and family squabbles would not benefit anyone. Maybe after they shared their feelings about what happened between them in the past, they could really begin to move forward, not as rivals, but as brother and sister. Their parents would have wanted them to and eight years of being at odds with one another was more than anyone should have to endure. Makoto turned in his chair to face the front door, waiting for his sister to arrive.
