Every aspect of Sin’s immediate appearance is deceptive. Most who see him either believe that he is a girl masquerading as a boy, or a boy who is cross-dressing as a girl. In actuality, neither is true. He is a boy, but he doesn’t have to go out of his way to look like feminine. His face can be called androgynous, but really it’s just feminine. He is usually dressed in simple clothing, and his gender confusion isn't helped at all by the fact that his favorite color is pink. That is not the only “deception” his appearance conveys. Sin also looks much younger than he really is, unless you catch him on the rare occasion when his face is in a serious expression (and even then, he could pass for a mature-looking sixteen-year-old). Very few people can accurately guess his real age, and most are related to him. To those who don’t know his family well, Sin is called the “young Rin daughter”.
Sin is very small. He is so skinny that it may almost be considered unhealthy and is easily dwarfed by most kids his age. He is, much to his annoyance, every bit as delicate as he looks. His skinny limbs lack strength and he tires extremely easily. The way he holds himself, combined with the diminutive size of his body, gives him a vulnerable and defenseless look which, much like most everything else about him, is almost completely inaccurate. As weak as he is physically, his mental power more than makes up for it, and his dominating personality is clear from the moment you look into his honey-brown eyes.
Sin's face is very open and honest and emotional, and it is never too hard to guess what he's feeling. He is hardly ever seen without a smile, though it is a smile that often lacks warmth or substance. If he is angry, worried, disdainful, happy, sad, or anything, you can tell with a single glance. He is very bad at hiding his emotions (at least for very long). Unlike the rest of his family, he never saw the point in wearing a mask and hiding his emotions or acting aloof, though he learned early on the benefits of never admitting to weakness. His eyes are large, taking up most of his face, and are a yellowish brown color that he shares with the rest of his family. His eyelashes are long, but thin, once again adding to his overall androgyny.
Sin does keep his hair short, probably in an ill-mannered attempt to look more like a boy (though that is one endeavor he gave up on years ago). But even so, he somehow manages to look feminine. His bangs frame his face perfectly and they are often brushed to the side so that they don’t hide his face. The short hairstyle is known to emphasize the maturity in one’s face, but it seems that nothing will ever make Sin look his age, not even a cool hairstyle.
Sin’s style of dressing is very relaxed, especially considering his linage. He wears large shirts and baggy shorts and tank tops and other laid-back clothes that are typical of a teenage boy (or tomboy teenage girl). He does have a bit of a girly streak in him, though;Personal Information
Personality Overview:i'm miserable at best
Sin’s appearance does more than make him look like everything he’s not; it makes his personality all that much more unbelievable. And, at times, even his personality can be deceiving.
Sin comes off at first as being very juvenile and innocent. He is actually very energetic, which manifests itself in big, shiny eyes and a loud, eager voice speaking in honey-sweet tones. Then, when you actually listen to what he is saying, you realize that that conclusion is very far from the truth. Though he is not yet quite “mature”, Sin is far from innocent (he has that nickname for a reason!). His words are often cold and cruel, and he speaks completely without regard for the feelings of the others. He doesn't think of other people at all. He can be most aptly described as a spoiled brat with a mouth too big for his own good. Though he is little more than a child on the inside, Sin hides this behind mean words and big guns.
He is kind of aloof and distant, especially towards people his own age. He is disdainful of their immature and carefree attitudes, though in his heart of hearts he probably envies them greatly. And to people who are not his age, he’s doesn’t act much better. He can be a bit demeaning to children, and just plain rude to adults. He has an opinion about everyone, and he never hesitates to say it. He doesn’t really have that much respect for most of the human race, at least on an impersonal level. He is rude to everyone, except for those select few he has genuine respect for. Most of the time he acts bitter, cold and stand-offish, with a sense of superiority that even he tires of sometimes. He is none-too-kind with his words, never bothering to sugar-coat them unless the effect is that he causes someone more harm.
And despite this, Sin seems to have a strange power over people when he speaks. Despite what the rest of his personality would lead you to believe, he is actually a natural-born leader and, were he a nicer person, would probably have many people willing to follow him and befriend him. When he speaks, he speaks with such conviction and belief that it becomes hard not to listen. He is very commanding when he speaks and often has a voice that tolerates no nonsense. This is probably because he doesn’t. He has a “no-nonsense, listen when I’m speaking, look at me when I’m talking to you, stop being such a moron,” attitude and is more than “a little bit” controlling. He doesn’t like to be ignored or dismissed, and often fights very hard to be heard. When in the presence of those he truly holds respect for, however, you might be surprised at just how soft-spoken and compliant he can be.
Sin bores very easily, and lives his life based on what seems to be most interesting at the time. There is a long list of things he doesn’t like doing and if he doesn’t like doing it, you’d better not expect him to. He is extremely stubborn and juvenile when it comes to that kind of thing. He has grown to be the kind of person who will just sit and pout around until he finds something entertaining to do.
Sin can be extremely unlikable to those who do not know him well, as he doesn't often reveal his reasons for doing things to strangers, or even friends. He likes to be in control, and he likes to be the center of attention. He likes to surround himself with "friends" (and enemies!), a habit that is formed of his extremely self-conscious attitude and crippling insecurity. Though it isn’t evident right away, Sin has a severe inferiority complex that controls most every decision he makes. He often finds himself plagued with doubt, which he responds to with anger and a domineering personality. He has often been told that he wasn't good enough, and is always feeling like he is fighting for approval.
Character Time-line:living in a house that is not a home
Misaki was born to a life of luxury. His family is filthy filthy rich, as his father is head of a large corporation. Though the money is for the moment at his disposal, Misaki is due to actually inherit none of his family’s affairs, unless by some miracle his older brother dies or is disowned (which, as much as everyone loves him, is impossible). Misaki, as far as his family is concerned, is a piece of the furniture. He is the second son of three, and thus received the shortest end of the stick. He is neither the baby of the family, nor the king, and has had to settle for being the third wheel in everything, the unwanted extra child.
For a while after his birth, he was doted upon by his parents as the youngest child (with the grudging exception of his mother, who was merely bitter that she had not been awarded a girl; the woman had prayed and prayed for a daughter to make up for all the hardships she had endured in her life and had refused to consider even the most remote that her child might be a boy, thus not planning for the actuality. Hence, his name. She has never forgiven Misaki for being born with one of those…thingies.). And then, two years later, his little brother Hayate was born, and all of their love and attention went to him instead. He was certainly a more agreeable child. Misaki was immediately cast aside, now branded as a “nobody”. As he was no prodigy, what little interest there had been in him quickly waned, and eventually vanished completely. For better or worse, he had been left to his own devices.
Growing up, Misaki resented basically his entire family, even his brothers. His older brother, Aki, was spoiled and conceited, and somewhat clueless when it came to basic human emotions. Hayete, the youngest Rin boy, idolized both of his brothers in the way only an adoring little child can, but quickly took after the rest of the family in their adoration of Abele. He had countless cousins, aunts, uncles, and even half-siblings who treated him with as much, if not more, scorn than the rest of his family. The only person he remembers ever showing him even the slightest bit of kindness was his great-grandfather, who passed away when he was seven.
Unlike with his siblings, Misaki’s parents showed no real interest in his upbringing, so he was mostly left to servants and nannies who gave him whatever he wanted to shut him up. Due to this treatment, he became rather spoiled, and his already somewhat warped personality grew even more so. By the time he was eight, he had stopped going by his birth name and most people called him “Sin”, a somewhat cruel nickname that grew on him as years went on. He began to act cold and scornful of the rest of the world, emulating the attitude that he was often treated with. That was also around the time that his nasty temper started to kick in. He was a rotten and unlikable child who was abusive to his servants and nannies, and just about everyone else too. He was the kind of boy who would spill paint on you as you walked in the door, and then stare at you straight in the face, with the bucket in his hand, and tell you he didn’t do it.
When Sin got a bit older, however, he got a bit of a break. His family was a major weapon manufacturer, so he often found himself surrounded with guns. Even though he never cared for much else, his father at the very least believed that all of his sons should be able to shoot a gun. Sin quickly took a liking to it and even after his father lost interest in the endeavor, he still managed to get his hands on as many weapons as possible and train with them. He excelled immediately, even more than his brothers or any of his relatives. That was the one thing he was recognized in his family for, and even that couldn’t make up for his personality.
As he grew older, Sin grew further and further away from his family (with the exception of Hayate, the one person he is willing to put up with, and even then only barely). He wasn’t quite independent, however, and it showed. The more his family isolated him, the more people he reached out to surround himself with. He grew rather loud and domineering, eager to keep people with him. He became convinced that he obviously wouldn’t be able to keep friends by being himself, so he seemed to decide that bullying them or sugaring them was the best way to “keep” them. Of course, this led to him only be disliked all the more, and it meant that the friends he gathered were far from the best. And when this began to show, he only fought fire with fire as always, and began to treat the world the way he expected to be treated. This, of course, alienated him even more.
As time went on, Sin began spending more and more time with the weapons, and less and less time messing around with his so-called friends. His apparent need for approval never went away, but his tolerance for attaining it slowly withered away.
Sin also had a small hobby: creating jewelry. For his own eleventh birthday, he crafted himself a small bracelet, which became the manifestation for Tate no Zaiakukan. He immediately fell in love with it. He wore the thing with him at all times and, strangely enough, believes it is probably the best friend he has. It was a little while after this that he discovered his ability, accidentally activating it when a pile of boxes fell on top of him. After that, he became to train with it, experimenting and perfecting it in addition to everything else.
Supernatural Abilities
Manifestation:
Tate no Zaiakukan – Shield of Sinful Guilt – Sin’s ability comes in the form of a bracelet around his right wrist that is in the shape of a shield. To activate his ability, he just says the name and touches it. He then gathers his reiatsu, which gathers itself into a large curving shield, which approximately 6 feet tall and 8 feet wide, at its largest. Most of the time, however, it is not quite that large.
The shield is not quite invisible, but it's easier to see once you know it's there. The central parts are nigh invisible, but the outer edges are dark pink in color, and the entire thing can reflect light if standing at the right angle. He usually puts a small hole near the center of it that he can fire through. The center of the shield aligns itself with his bracelet, but it will only stay up as long as it stays in contact with Sin himself. To keep it centered around himself, Sin will usually carry the bracelet in his mouth for as long as the shield stays up.
Functionality:
Sin’s shield protects him not only from spiritual attacks, but physical ones as well. The smaller it is, the more dense it is (which means, of course, that the larger he makes it, the less hits it is capable of taking). Most of the time, it can only take about 7 powerful, head-on hits, but he really prefers to be gone by that point.
Though it does not require his active concentration to be maintained, the shield does continually drain Sin's energy as long as it remains in place, meaning that he can’t afford to keep it up for terribly long. Five minutes is his preferred time. At fifteen minutes, he starts to feel a bit fatigued; at twenty-five, he is physically and obviously weighed down. He's never gone higher than thirty before, even when he practices.
Abilities:
- Name: Hen no Zaiaku - (Shards of Sin)
Class: Offensive
Range: About 20 ft.
Description: Sin doesn't like to use this ability too much, as he is usually caught in the blast as well. When forced into a situation demanding close-quarter combat, Sin has an ace in the hole: the ability to discharge his shield in an explosion of reiatsu, which manifests itself into large "shards" that will impale his enemy (and anyone standing in range), as well as cause a flash of light that should enable him to escape.Combat Information
Reiryoku Level: 7
Character Dynamic:
Sin specializes in long-distance fighting; more specifically, guns. Despite his young age, he is an expert marksman. There is hardly a gun in existence (well, other than the really old ones) that he can't use well. He much prefers, however, to use a sniper rifle. He has amazing eyesight and often pays attention to things that others might miss.
Because of his small size, Sin is not very strong and avoids hand-to-hand combat at all costs. He is very weak and easily overpowered and actually has a bit of a phobia of being hit at all. In addition, he cannot run very far (he has a minor heart condition, on top of everything else) or very fast. In fact, if not for his amazing skill with guns, he would be basically completely defenseless.
Fighting Style:
Sin fights from a distance. Because he uses guns, he is very good at assessing an opponent's weak spots. He actually spends a bit of time observing his opponent before he makes his move, assessing them and also, most importantly, looking for a good and easy way to escape. He avoids hand-to-hand combat at all costs, even if it means sacrificing someone else's safety to do so.
When fighting, Sin will set up his barrier and stay back. He would likely rely on staying out of sight to do his job, as being seen increases his chances of being caught in close quarter combat. (Now would be a good time to point out that, on the Bravery Scale, Sin rates at about a 4.5 out of 10...)
He very much prefers to get fights over with quickly. If forced into a prolonged fight, he will start any attempt he can to escape, as he tires easily and will probably runs out of bullets at some point anyway (sniper rifle, ya know). If forced into a battle, he would work better if he had someone at his side. Actually, to be more specific, he probably won't ever fight unless he has someone with him.
Reiryoku/Reiatsu Abilities:
Significant Inventory:
- Guns, guns, so many guns – Sin does carry at least two guns with him, all of them small and portable. On occasion, he may also have a larger gun in a case to accompany him, but only if he feels he’ll need it. Which doesn’t really happen that often. In that case, he'll carry it in an instrument case.
