Character Name: Kirstie Maldonado
Race [Shinigami-Hollow-Human-Quincy]: Shinigami
Position of Character: Captain of Squad 11
Character Loyalties: Gotei 14
Character Goals: To continue her mentor's legacy to the best of her abilities
Character Backstory / History: Kirstie was a young girl in the Rukongai, always fascinated with strangers that passed through the place, following them from afar to watch their business. It was during her roaming through the districts where she first heard of a monster that had passed through and killed multiple people and simply walked off, and wondered what type of monster it was. After much searching, she heard about the monster killing a captain and becoming one in return, a beast who killed the Kenpachi with a single swing of his sword. Desperate to quell her curiosity, she joined the academy, her motivation to find this monster her singular driving force. Instead of meeting a disgusting creature that definitely looked monsteresque, she simply found a man who looked bored and a little battle worn. It wasn't until she saw him fight that she knew what she needed to do, finally deciding to get accepted to his squad and learn from such a powerful person.
Doing well in the academy, and excelling in all fields, she had numerous offers for other squads, but accepted the 11th. After learning the unspoken rule the squad had, she stopped working on her Kido and other abilities, and learned everything she could about weapon and hand-to-hand combat, working her way through the ranks. At the 6th rank, she decided to stop, having become so attached to her squad, she didn't need to go up in rank. Though she'd stopped at 6th, she had more power than fifth and third seat, having both her Shikai and her Bankai most suited for close combat. In each battle she had, she proved her viciousness and her potency, her tactical ability exceeding what most people though the squad 11 members were capable of, often out thinking her opponents, and showing them what she was truly capable of.
During the war, however, she never had a chance. Being of a lower seat, she wasn't allowed onto the front lines, leaving her separated from the fifth and above. After most the fighting had died down, and members were returning to the shambles that was the Gotei, no sign of Zaraki and the others had returned. It wasn't until the last of the front lines returned that the death of her squad had left alot of positions to fill. They'd all rushed into battle, being the hardcore battle enthusiasts they were, and had all been killed. She didn't believe it, waiting for a week outside the squad 11 barracks for any of their returns. After another week of rebuilding and repairing the Seireitei, and discussion amongs the remaining living higher ranks, positions were divided up, and the new rankings were announced. She was approached by a lieutenant she was unfamiliar with, who gave her the news. As she was the only qualified member of Squad 11, and only of a lower rank due to contentedness with her position, she was given the promotion to Captain of Squad 11, and the title of Kenpachi granted to her as well. After her ceremony, and her run down of what would be expected of her, she was left to her own, spending day in and day out fighting and training her power, more determined than ever to prove her worth as a Captain and Kenpachi, though she herself refuses to accept it until she beats Zaraki in battle, and proves to herself and him that she is finally worthy of being his successor. The subject of Zaraki still gets to her, however, and any mention of Zaraki brings out her temper, making her unapproachable until she calms down or destroys something, believing herself robbed of her opportunity to truly come into her rank.
---BIO---
Age: 333
Gender: Female
Hair Color Red
Eye ColorYellow
Physical Description: Standing at 6'3”, Kirstie is a rather curvy woman. Her garb is a low cut sleeveless kimono, long black arm warmers going from her wrists (and around her thumb) to 2/3 the way up her upper arm (just short of her tattoo), with pink gloves overtop the sleeves. She wears the typical Hakama going the length of her legs, but the sash wrapped around her waist is a pink stained design, with small splatter marks at the edge. Her swords are sheathed in an X shape behind her back to not be in her way. Though she has two blades, she focuses on her left as she is left handed and only uses two when called for, drawing her blades backwards. Her reason for her sword placement is uniformity. As one of the few Captain's who are left handed (possibly the only one) she thinks it looks terrible if she were standing out due to her Zanpakuto. Her hair is long and pink, much of her decision stemming from her desire to give, in some sense, memory to the people she loved and fought beside. Pink after Yachiru, the lotus flower on her upper arm symbolizing the eternalization of the Gotei, her weapon the epitome of what Squad 11 stood for, and what Zaraki had always taught, her fashion sense to bring beauty to battle in memory of the queen of beauty himself, Yumichika, and her polearm, she felt already symbolized Ikkaku and his favourite weapon. Her eyes are a deep red, a unique trait among souls.
Personality: While she comes across as solitary and arrogant, she has more behind her than most people know. Unlike the Kenpachi before her, she didn't defeat the previous and take their title, she was given the title upon achieving Captain rank of Squad 11. As such, she feels she does not deserve the title, and so puts everything into her fights as if trying to prove her worth above Zaraki, whom she knows would have laughed at her had they fought at her current level. Having never even seen him release his sword in any way, she had wondered if it was possible to even come close to beating him, as his power had always seemed limitless. Knowing who the previous Kenpachi was, she found herself incapable of shaking her confidence problem. Though she always seeks to prove her worth in every fight, and can be a depressing individual, she knows her power is more than people give her credit for, and has no problems taking her opponents out quickly. She will utilize a person's misjudgement in her power to her advantage, preferring to end fights quickly or get the fight really going as soon as possible, rather than beating around the bush and boring herself with weak fights.
---COMBAT---
[Note: There is a new system in place for the site using a set basic measurement of stats.
Fighting Style: While she is known as a Kenpachi, and as such, sets her own fighting style, she takes after her mentor, Zaraki, and his idea of fighting in person. Appreciating her Zanpakuto, a completely physical type Zanpakuto, she feels she can continue Squad 11's understanding of fighting, and prefers close combat to distance attacks. Refusing to use Kido of any kind, she has put all her training into strength and power. While Zaraki had skin that was nigh uncuttable, she has skin matching that of the Arrancar from Hueco Mundo, a thicker skin strengthened with her spiritual pressure. While she doesn't always need to block an attack as her defence is strong, she prefers leaving her ultimate power hidden, only releasing it if it is necessary.
For any weaker opponent, she will allow them the first hit, using her thick skin to terrify the opponent into believing she is invulnerable, and breaking their will to fight, giving her the chance to just end what would have been a boring fight.
For a mid leveled opponent, she will block all attacks, assess their ability and fighting style, and take them out as soon as she can, only resorting to Shikai if she wants to end the fight right then.
High level opponents she will use her Shikai, possibly Bankai if the fight proves worthy enough, and enjoy her fight a little longer than normal before she ends the fight. Higher level opponents often don't get the blessing of surviving fights with her, as she has deemed them worth killing.
Captain+ class opponents are the only opponents she takes seriously. If they haven't underestimated her and died to her sword, Shikai and Bankai are more than likely at hand for the fight. As soon as a person has shown power worthy of her complete attention, she will slice the bindings on her legs, dropping a massive amount of weight, and release the binds on her arms, increasing her speed by a large amount, and improving her strength by 2 fold. Using the idea Zaraki had had of limiting her power unless necessary, she believes in using any means necessary to retain her binds so as to increase her base power, and make her releases all the more potent in comparison.

The Tsuba loses two of the guards, thinning and extending to produce two long, sharp points. The other two guards shift up and sit above the points as arrowheads. A green writing appears on the blade, reading out "With this blade, your soul I reap. Those who see it are doomed, the harbinger of eternal damnation has arisen". It was a great day. Sunlight, no rain, not even a cloud in the sky. The world seemed to be at peace. Everyone was happy... and why shouldn't they be? There was no fighting from anyone, and they'd all been given the day off to prepare for a ceremony... HER ceremony...
They were celebrating her, on a perfect day. So why? Why did she feel like shutting herself in her quarters and refusing to even show her face. If it weren't for the Captain Commander throwing the party, she wouldn't have even given a party a thought, let alone a grunt or response in acceptance or denial. She was receiving a welcoming into her new roles... roles she wasn't so sure she had earned yet. Feeling her anger boil, she picked up the nearest object, and threw it with all her might at the wall, shattering a vase and sending the flowers spewing across the ground. “Damn you, Zaraki. Why couldn't you do anything right? You were supposed to stick around. Keep me working until my bones turned to dust, just in the hopes of one day reaching your level. You couldn't even let me earn your title the way a Kenpachi is supposed to do...” She cursed aloud, staring at her desk. No paperwork yet. Everyone was holding off until her ceremony.
Oh how she didn't want to go. How could she show her face, knowing she was a fraud, simply a Kenpachi because she was the present Captain of Squad 11. It wasn't fair. It wasn't fair to her squad, who knew her, but knew she wasn't Zaraki, nor at his level. He was a large man... he left some BIG shoes to fill. She wasn't on his level. She didn't think she was ready. She hated him. If she ever had an opportunity, she'd kill him, just to make herself feel better.
A knock on the door was met with another object hitting the door, scaring the squad member, who simply saw a blade run through the door, close to his knocking fist. “C-Captain...?” He muttered, figuring she was in a bad mood. Silence met him, until the door opened, and the blade disappeared behind her once more. “Speak.” She said, staring at him. “Th-the squad wanted you to come to the b-barracks... I-IF THAT WAS OK WITH YOU, OF COURSE!” He added quickly, seeing the dark look on her face. She sighed, trying to calm herself down. Snapping at everyone, especially her squad, was definitely the wrong foot to start off with. “I'll be there.” She said, turning around and grabbing her captains cloak, draping it over her left shoulder.
Upon entering the barracks, she was greeted with a somber surprise, the squad not being big on celebrations, especially not given the circumstances. But they'd pooled together personal funds, and bought her a gift, something she would grow to appreciate. But right then, it was a slap to the face. A large training dummy, designed to look like Zaraki. “We have one in the Barracks. Ca... uh... he wanted us to have a reason to fight and become strong, and many of us wanted to best him one day. We thought... maybe you'd want one as well, and keep him alive through fighting.” Her anger spilled over. She drew her Zanpakuto and instantly activated her Shikai, slicing it in two, and, as the head fell, cleaving the head clean off it's body. “Bastard...” She hissed at the broken dummy, only to look in surprise as it formed itself together once more, standing over her. She didn't know what to do. Here she was, looking at the man who was supposed to be her teacher, wanting nothing more than to kill him, and yet, the dummy was refusing to go down... just like Zaraki. The explanation of her present had some meaning to her, too. Her last chance at training to beat the last true Kenpachi... not the real thing, but as close as she'd ever get.
It got late, and she was dressed in her Captain's garb, wearing all her excess gear, weights and all, ready for the ceremony. Though she tried to enjoy herself, she knew she looked like a hateful and rude person, much like the Captain before her. She knew people got the impression, and figured it wouldn't much matter. It was no one else's business as to what went on in her head, nor what demons she was fighting with from moment to moment. As long as her loyalty never wavered, and her fighting ability was on point, no one had a right to know what was going on with her.
