Physical Description: Ketsu Tsubame, one of the most recognized assassins and mercenaries in the criminal underworld, is quite clearly a man accustomed to the great luxuries of life. As a child, he always received the best of the best, from education to toys to food, and everything in between. His father, a business tycoon who had his hands in the criminal underworld, only wanted the best for his son, and hired the best of tutors to educate Ketsu in every subject, going from the regular academics to martial arts and the art of assassination. He was also taught about the Spiritual Realm, for like his ancestors before him, he too could see the unearthly beings that lingered in this world. Quite clearly, his life was fairly easy, with the only strenuous thing to ail him being his intense studies. This reflects in many aspects of his appearance, from his clothing, the way he holds himself, and so on.
Education and ease of life were not the only things that Ketsu received from his father, however; genetics were another big thing that was passed down, and later enhanced as time went on. The young man was graced with a tall figure that enabled him to tower above most others, much to his delight; for not only did he surpass them in material wealth, but also in physical terms as well. This looming height, coupled with a very lean and well muscled figure from his involvement in the martial arts made him a very intimidating yet endearing person to the fairer sex... Especially if they were in to an enigmatic, wealthy man who looked like he had just walked out of the pages of a modern vampire-romance novel. His confidence in his abilities and appearance enabled Ketsu to walk with his head held tall, and his movements were always smooth and graceful; calculated, almost. He walked and acted with a purposeful air about him, a trait that still has not dissipated to this day.
Ketsu had always been taught that appearances meant everything for a first impression, and as such, he always dressed to make a good one. Later on, however, he began to turn to the enigmatic bad-boy look more and more, until he got to where he is today. Each morning, he spends a good hour or so spiking up his hair, trying to make it look 'perfect' by his standards. Just like everything else Ketsu wears, this style was heavily influenced by the popular trends of the modern world; something that the young man has been obsessed with for a very long time. The narcissist is firm on being on the cutting edge of fashion, specifically those that fall into the mysterious, handsome young man category. He keeps a very close eye on the popular magazines and fashion websites, always making sure that he's never wearing a style that's been deemed 'outdated'.
Ketsu's facial features possess a subtle hint of femininity, making many call him 'beautiful' as quickly as they'd say 'handsome'. A long, thin nose runs between two, slightly narrow blood-red eyes that look as if they can see into the soul of even the most complex of individuals. These oddly coloured orbs betray the slightly malicious yet cunning nature of their bearer, and always seem to have a calm, calculating look about them. It's very rare to see them display any other sort of emotion, except for the occasional anger or irritation. His mouth, on the other hand, are another thing entirely. A slight smirk, taunting smile, scowl of anger, and many other things tend to grace his thin lips, although the more pleasant of emotions are generally fake.
Ketsu prefers to keep his attire comfortable enough to fit in, but 'modern' enough to be presentable in his eyes. As such, he usually dons a simple, long sleeved, collared black shirt. More often than not, the buttons are done up properly, although on the occasion he'll undo a few for various reasons; oftentimes fighting or heat are the main ones. His dark grey jeans aren't too baggy but not too restricting either, creating a pleasant, comfortable medium between the two criteria. Due to the extreme discomfort most dress shoes seem to cause, Ketsu had a custom pair made so that he could fight and move about freely without feeling pain jolt through his feet and legs with every step. These shoes follow the dark colour theme of the rest of his clothing, and are a jet black tone. While they are a little old, they still haven't lost their shine due to the polishing that is done on them at least once a week- usually more.
Personal Information
Personality Overview: Ketsu tends to come across as a very mysterious and enigmatic man to the general public. To most, he's like a one thousand piece puzzle with each piece coloured solid black; it's next to impossible to understand the reasons and motives behind everything he does and says without understanding what he does and has done. In fact, without a basic knowledge of his past, there seems to be no reasons or motives behind most everything. Of course, this knowledge is given to only his closest of companions, and even then, they may only get a taste and not a mouthful of what is needed. Those who know of his existence -namely the Yakuza- simply don't bother questioning anything anymore; they see him as a cold blooded, skillful assassin, a powerful asset, and nothing more.
Ketsu prefers for people to view him as an enigma, and as such often responds to personal questions by subtly deflecting them, or answering in riddles and the like. This is mainly due to the fact that he doesn't want to get found out by the police. While he could easily break out or get a bail due to his influence and wealth, there would be no doubt that he'd get pegged in some way or another, and his reputation would also be ruined. In an attempt to keep such incidents down, he tends to keep to himself, and is left alone for the most part.
At the core of the young man's personality lies the blood on his hands. While it never seems to show, and he is in constant denial, Ketsu is greatly affected by his occupation. The guilt and remorse that crash over him like the waves of the ocean are relentless and persistent, only stopping once they've finally eroded the mental defenses that have been set up. When the creeping vines of despair finally find the holes that lead to his heart, Ketsu finds himself forced to face the reality of his actions, a weight so unbearable it forces the usually calm man into a corner for up to a week at a time. These onslaughts of darkness are brought on by nothing in particular, coming and going at random, unpredictable intervals. This has a great, negative impact on his psychological state, which seems to be growing frailer and frailer by the day. For all the things his father had taught him, nothing detailed on how to deal with such emotions, and thus Ketsu finds himself weak and helpless at these times, simply overwhelmed by the powerful emotions.
Such episodes, however rare, are often worsened by Ketsu's complete and total isolation from 'normal' society. The only people he fraternizes with are the Yakuza, and they can't really be counted as friends. Between the lack of interaction he had with anyone other than his father and the tutors as a child, and his constant attempt to remain as a ghost to the rest of the world, he is completely and utterly alone, so to speak. As each day passes, he is only further reminded of this fact, and the black pit inside his heart seems to grow just a touch the longer he is without a comrade.
This isn't to say that the calm, calculating and slightly stoic aspect of Ketsu is just a facade. It's simply yet another side to the man that does indeed take predominance above all the others. This was started early on in his childhood, mainly by the combat tutors. Each step Ketsu makes is carefully considered before it's actually taken, with all the roots tracing back to survival above all else. Due to this, he has not affiliated himself with anyone, spirit realm or not. He works with groups and people, not for them, and if a group is about to fall, he'll switch to the victor's side quickly. Despite the mental torment he endures each day, Ketsu strives to survive for some unknown reason, and refuses to be taken down with anyone or anything. It's every man for himself in his eyes, which makes him a horribly unpredictable wild card.
However, buried far beneath all his negative traits and faces, is compassion, love and kindness. Had he been born to another family, Ketsu could have easily become a kind and loving boy, and despite how neglected these traits have been in him, they still do exist, however faint. There hasn't been a time yet, but perhaps there will be, when these emotions come to surface to fight for justice and not the victor.
Character Time-line:On January 1, 2039 in Tokyo city, a healthy baby boy was born to Tsubasa and Nami Tsubame; two of the town's wealthiest people, mainly due to the former's incredibly successful chain of businesses across the world. However, dark rumors surrounded the man, specifically questioning his involvement in illegal activities, although no one dared to step forth; his influence was great, and there was little doubt that he could destroy a person's life with one simple command. These rumors only increased and darkened roughly a month after Ketsu's birth, when his mother mysteriously disappeared. It was well known that Nami and Tsubasa didn't have the greatest of relationships; their marriage was purely conventional, for both to gain wealth and a heir to the 'clan'... At least, according to society. The true reason for their marriage was due to Nami's strong spiritual abilities; like Tsubasa, she too could see and even combat spirits. Wanting a child who could do just that, he offered to give her all she wanted if she could bear just one baby for him. Greedy by nature, she agreed, yet after her usefulness was over, Tsubasa simply killed her. All the fingers pointed at him, but there was no evidence to link the tycoon to it, even after they found her brutally mutilated corpse in the river a week later.
Ketsu, on the other hand, was spoiled rotten. Even though he was just a babe in arms, it was certain that he would later be able to communicate with those who had passed on. Not to mention, his appearance seemed to take after Tsubasa, which made the man even happier. Thus, Ketsu grew up getting whatever he wanted, and only the best of everything was ever given to him. Like any child would, he took advantage of this, and asked for just about anything, even if didn't really want it. He loved the power he held over such things, and even at an early age, it made him tingle with excitement.
Ketsu's tutoring began the minute he could walk, in some instances. He was taught in all the regular academic subjects, but also in areas that involved honing and using reiatsu and the like, along with instruction in the martial arts and the likes. Although there were many things that he disliked (such as math, geography, drama, etc.), he tolerated it with the hopes that it would make him powerful and give him more control over everything. His favourite 'subject' was assassination; it all came to him so easily, as if he had been born to kill.
If there was one major downfall to this scheme, it was the lack of interaction Ketsu had with anyone, let alone people his own age. His father, tutors and the rest of the staff were the only humans he actually spoke to and interacted with, although none of them could fill in the empty hole where a friend needed to be. When he was completely alone, the boy often found himself sitting on a soft piece of furniture, and just staring at the wall, wondering what ailed him; never once did he think of loneliness. He usually just pushed it away in the end, leaving it for another day.
When Ketsu was fifteen, he began to take on small jobs for the Yakuza, but it wasn't until he was sixteen that his life began to balance ever so precariously on the tip of a knife. He began to take darker jobs, namely those that included murder and the likes. For four long years he dove deeper and deeper into the crime world, and when he finally hit the age of twenty, he reached the point of no return. Not because he had killed so many people, and was now accustomed to it; no, that had happened long ago. He was ordered to kill his father, and that's just what he did. Late into the night, he walked openly into Tsubasa's study, a knife concealed in his sleeve. The older man had no idea what was going to happen, and it wasn't until the blade was embedded deep in his chest with a skillful flick of the wrist, that he realized that his son had turned upon him. Ketsu, his pride and joy, his golden boy, had just betrayed him.
While watching the light die from his father's eyes, while watching his head hit the desk with a sickening thump as the life left him, Ketsu hit the point of no return. Calmly, he acknowledged this; he felt no sorrow or remorse for killing the man who raised him... Or so he thought. He continued to work as a hired assassin in Tokyo for another two years before people really started to get suspicious, so he simply upped and left for another place.
He ended up in Karakura, drawn to it due to the amount of spiritually aware people there. He took on odd jobs, always being careful not to draw suspicion to himself, and was fairly reserved; only those in the criminal underworld really knew of his existence. Ketsu still lives there to this day, continuing on with his life as assassin. He generally ignores the hollows, the quincy, the Shinigami and everyone else too, unless they mess with him... He's a neutral wild card, and until a victor in something is almost clear, he will remain as such.
