Kasumi stirred as Fumiko touched her briefly but didn’t awaken until she had thrown on some clothes and left her alone in the dark. Blinking sleep from her eyes she sat up and shuffled into the warm space left behind, with an expression of confused disappointment. She didn’t think she’d had another nightmare, couldn’t recall any dream at all, so couldn’t imagine that she’d driven the woman away. Concerned, she threw back the covers and sat on the edge of the bed with a shiver, trying to locate some clothing in the dark. Finding a hooded jumper that was long enough to cover everything, she pulled it over her trembling form as the scent of Fumiko filled her nostrils. With a new sense of resolution she crept to the doorway and cracked it open a fraction to peek out, expecting sunlight to have filled the living area but instead finding it lit up by the moon.
A long, feminine silhouette was cast upon the floor and a slight breeze drifted in from the open balcony. The scent of cigarette smoke wafted in causing her to frown. Had something frayed Fumiko’s nerves? Tip-toeing across the cool hard-wood floor, she snuck up to the older woman and circled her arms carefully around her waist to hug her from behind. Resting her chin on her shoulder, she would smile despite her worries.
“Are you having trouble sleeping? I’m sorry if I woke you, I was having a bad dream…” Sighing a little, she hoped that she hadn’t done anything wrong the night before. The last thing she wanted was to make Fumiko restless or cause her disappointment.
